Am I Giving the Lord My Best? - Malachi 1:6-14
In Malachi 1:6-14, God speaks to Israel through the prophet Malachi against the priests of the Lord. God accuses the priests of despising His name by presenting less than the best offerings for sacrifices to the Lord (1:6-9). God would rather the gates of the Temple be closed than have the priests sacrifice the unwanted of one’s flock (1:10). God accuses the priests for disdaining the table of the Lord, saying, “How tiresome it is!” (1:13, NASB). Yet, despite this les than mediocre attempt by the priests to serve the Lord, God states three times that His name will be great among the nations.
Am I despising the Lord’s name (1:6) by offering my second best? Does my attitude reflect that of the priests, in essence saying, “How tiresome this is!” in regards to serving the Lord? May it never be! Thank the Lord that His glory is not dependent upon me; however, that does not excuse me from giving my best to Him. Because He chose me and saved me from mire of sin, I have no other response other than to give Him my best in all I do in service to Him.
